Ioannis Chasiotis received his Ph.D. in Aeronautics from the California Institute of Technology in 2001. He is an associate professor in the Illinois Department of Aerospace Engineering and a part-time faculty member in the Beckman Institute Autonomous Materials Systems group. His fields of professional interest include nanoscale mechanical behavior of anisotropic and inhomogeneous nanostructured materials.

Honors: Best Paper Prize in Journal Fatigue and Fracture of Engineering Materials and Structures (FFEMS), 2008; First Prize in MEMS Design Competition by Sandia National Laboratories, 2008; National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award, 2008; 2007 ONR Young Investigator Award; Best Paper Award in 6th International Symposium on MEMS and Nanotechnology, Annual Meeting of the Society for Experimental Mechanics, Portland OR, 2005; American Academy of Mechanics (AAM) Founders Prize and Grant, AAM, 2000; Charles Babcock Memorial Award, California Institute of Technology, 1999; Outstanding Research Presentation Award, American Vacuum Society, 1998.
