Digging in for the groundbreaking for the Beckman Institute at the University of Illinois are (from left):
Nina T. Shepherd, president of the Board of Trustees; Illinois Governor, James R. Thompson; Dr. Arnold Beckman; Mabel Beckman; University President Stanley O. Ikenberry, and UIUC Chancellor Thomas E. Everhart. The groundbreaking ceremony took place in the Fall of 1986.
