Research at the Beckman Institute isn’t limited by the traditional boundaries separating academic disciplines, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Institute’s three resource facilities are just as enterprising in pursuing their mission of supporting a wide range of research efforts.
Beckman’s Integrated Systems Laboratory (ISL) is taking its virtual reality capabilities into the art world, while the Imaging Technology Group (ITG) is collaborating with a doctor and materials scientists toward development of a groundbreaking tool for surgeons. The Biomedical Imaging Center (BIC) tests the boundaries of magnetic resonance imaging as its own research goal while providing unique imaging services to a growing array of scientists. As these facilities expand their capabilities and client lists, they are also collaborating in fields outside of science, and sometimes serve as research partners in their own right.
